Capturing Rainbows

This activity can give your young child the ability to capture a real rainbow and save it for another day.

Place a crystal in a window that gets good light. When the rainbows appear on the floor, help your child pick a favorite and get their white paper ‘under’ it. Then use crayons to color in their own rainbow – covering the one from the crystal.

Have some fun exploring the stories about rainbows and their special powers. Help them appreciate the magic – that all those colors are in the light – and that the crystal just sorts them out for us to see. Maybe play a little Judy Garland during the process.
