Cock-A-Doodle-Doo!

We’ve all heard the zoological metaphors about masculine power: roosters cock-a-doodling; rams with their powerful horns; peacocks with the grandest displays and the proverbial alpha males in wolf packs. Displays of power, in the animal kingdom at least, win mates and a ticket to future generations.

Are there parallels in humankind? Well, that’s so obvious you may have laughed at the question.  And it’s not a bad thing – it’s a true thing. Cultures all around the world demand that men belly up to the bar and get in the game. Like it or not.

But what does power look like in our contemporary world? It can be stature & fitness (sports), uniforms (authority) and protective instincts (‘Here, take my seat and I will hold the door for you.”). But one of the most common ways to connote power is to show or imply wealth. “Stick with me, honey, and we can live in luxury.” (We can get into the female equivalents at another time. There are some stories there too)

What says wealth? A friend once shared a phrase with me, “Money talks. Wealth whispers.”

Given that, I invite you to read about a screaming match – no whispering here …
